Gitana Rosa Gallery invites you to celebrate the opening of Joanna Mulder's solo exhibition on Thursday October 28th from 7-10pm. We are very excited for everyone to participate in the Candy-Colored Nightmare and to come in costume! Trick or Treat, folks! This exhibition will be sure to fright and delight your inner child. The exhibit will run until November 20, 2010.
The body of work titled "I FEEL YUCKY, The Candy-Colored Nightmare” is the beginning of a larger series that explores not only the juxtaposition of bright, cartoonish imagery with themes of depravity and putrefaction, but also joyously celebrates the mind bending genre of psychedelic art.
Joanna Mulder is a Brooklyn-based illustrator. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 1999 with a BFA in Visual Communications (with an emphasis in Illustration), and began working in a screen-printing shop directly after school. This experience lead to her eventual move to New York, where she began working for the clothing brand Old Navy. Since then, Joanna has worked for other brands, such as Aeropostale and Burton. Outside of her professional life, Joanna has a voracious appetite for making art, and spends most of her time painting, drawing, sculpting, sewing and taking on various freelance projects.
