New York—Gitana Rosa Gallery is pleased to present Unbridled Muses, a series of new paintings and works on paper by Nathaniel Galka, opening during Frieze week. Having previously shown in several group shows at the gallery, this exhibition will mark his first solo show at the gallery, as well as his first solo show in New York City.

Inspired by the idea of zoomorphism, in this new series Galka blends a world of fantasy with reality, attempting to re-create and blend the daydreams of a child with the sophistication of our adult thoughts.  In his oil paintings, he combines lush and colorful abstract backgrounds with detailed hybrid animal forms.  His graphite drawings on paper are more spare, featuring these same hybrid animals forms against plain white backgrounds.

Nathaniel Galka graduated from Northwestern University, with an  MFA in 2001, and Columbus College of Art and Design, with a BFA in 1998.  He has had numerous solo shows at galleries throughout the Midwest and South, and has exhibited in group shows worldwide, including the IX Florence Biennale Internazionale, in Florence, Italy in 2013.
